HYGIENE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
FOR THE PREPARATION OF NITRILE (NBR) - NEOPRENE (CR) SYNTHETIC RUBBER SOLUTIONS
The preparation of synthetic rubber solutions enables the production of a number of products, such as adhesives, sealants, paints, carpet support compounds and tyre compounds. Manufacturing processes vary depending on the nature of the rubbers, the end use and the desired viscosity.
Manufacturing tanks are filled with solvents that pose a danger to safety, hygiene and the environment; for example: acetone, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) or hydrocarbons such as toluene or hexane. They are then loaded with rubber in the form of powder, granules or blocks (the granules and blocks are chopped beforehand).
Producers are looking for:
Remember that NBR and FKM rubbers are completely insensitive to hydrocarbon solvents (Hexane - Toluene).
Reminder:
- Acetone: INRS sheet no. 3
- MEK: INRS sheet no. 14
- MIBK: INRS sheet no. 56 (CMR)
- Toluene: INRS sheet no. 74
- Hexane: INRS sheet no. 113
Most common types of rubbers:
- Natural rubber, latex from Hevea
- Synthetic rubbers: SBR, HNBR, NBR, BR, IIR, CIIR, BIIR, EPDM, CR, CSM, FKM (ASTM D 1418 - ISO 1629.2013)
